Why are there so many houses for sale in Spain?
ls you look on some websites or apps it seems like there are lots of houses for sale in Spain. But is this really the case?
In the province of Málaga (Costa del Sol), there are currently 7,731 apartments and houses for sale.
Looking at the Netherlands, there are 74,000 homes for sale at the time of writing (October 2023). About 10 times as many people live in the Netherlands as in the province of Málaga.
Comparatively speaking, there are not that many houses for sale. In addition, it is very common in Spain to put the house for sale with several real estate agents. On the Spanish Costa's there are also many vacation homes without permanent residents. Finally, you also see that real estate portals like Idealista and Fotocasa keep many houses as decoys after they are sold.
